Best wheel for sharpening small end mills

i am looking for a new grinding wheel for use on small fine work such as resharpening the tips of smaller size end mills and other tasks where I need to grind into tight corners leaving a sharp corner.

I am thinking of a diamond wheel but what works best? What size, shape and grade? Is it something that Dremel type tooling would work for!?

Search of the threads shows lots of ideas for the machinery but little regarding choice of wheel so thought best to ask!

Diamond and CBN coated wheels with acute corners work well.

For "grinding" drill bits and small spindle gouges (for woodturning) up to and including HSS hardness I like to use 2.35 mm-shank sander rolls powered by a micromotor. I do the work under magnification.

For gashing the centre of slot drills use a metal cutting angle grinder disc.

ARC list a suitable-looking diamond wheel with 15 deg taper.

There is some disagreement about the suitability of diamond wheels for grinding steel but I have found it helpful to use a dressing stick on glazed CBN and diamond resin-bonded wheels (my stick came from Abtec).

Thanks for your suggestions guys, some ideas to take forward. Sounds like the ARC wheel might be a good starting point as that should fit my cutter grinder and minimise modificatons

Diamond wheels are brilliant and give a really keen edge.

Bit of a fiddle to get them to run true on an off-hand grinder, worth spending the time with a dti to reduce run out as much as possible.

You may find you need to replace the OEM pressed steel cup washers with machined items.

Because they have an aluminium backplate and are not brittle, diamond wheels can be rigidly mounted to the grinder shaft..

I made an plug to fit on the shaft of my grinder, then put the grinder on my mini lathe with one end of the shaft in the chuck and the other supported by the tailstock. I then turned a step on the plug to a close fit in the diamond wheel. I get no perceptible runout on the wheel.

Sounds like good (and experienced) advice, thanks

I will be putting mine on the cutter grinder but the mounting method remains a good plan.
