If you just want a simple NVR switch with green and red push buttons there are lots on ebay – or search for "starter switch" in Axminster tools site

Axminster do a couple of models which would suit. I replaced the simple switch on my cheapy drill and upgraded my home made saw bench some time ago. Both are now a lot safer to use. Switches are not dear,and simple to fit.

I bought a on/off switch off eBay for £3.79 free delivery, with back box, from Chinese supplier, had to wait for a couple of weeks but is now fitted & works just fine… NOT NVR, just isolation. I have now got similar NVR switch from same supplier again £5.60 but without back box ( should be easy enough to fab' one ).

The motor on a machine tool should ideally have overload protection and NVR ( no volt release) no volt release is a safety feature to prevent the automatic restart of the machine in the event of supply failure. Overload protection trips the motor starter if the motor draws too much current for too long. Using a proper starter also allows remote emergency stops and guard switches to be incorporated in the motor control circuit. The DOL (direct on line) starter from tool station will provide the contactor for the NVR and starter function and you will also need the overload suitable for the motors full load current (FLC)

The starter I linked to can also be linked to a small set of remote buttons if the complete box cannot be located in a convenient place.

Mike, good advice but do you know if the starter you linked to has an overload unit fitted or is that an additional cost as they are listed separately ?

Unfortunately it is another 9 pounds odd on top of the starter price but if it saves a motor it would be money well spent. I assume they sell it as an add on as you have to select the size range for the motor and some people may not need the thermal overload as some motors have thermistors built in and need a different setup.
