After about a year rebuilding an early myford super 7, I am now failing at the last stage as I cannot get the motor pulley to fit inside the closed belt guards.

Does anyone have any pictures of an early myford super 7 belt and guard arrangement or know of any tips I may have missed to help get the pulley inside the guard? I just can't see how I can get the pulley and motor over enough for the guard to close with the pulley inside , especially with the main drive pulley also inside the guard and I can't find any pictures of one this early online.

      Thanks

There are some decent images here –

The gap between the back face of the primary drive guard and the section of the lathe behind it is 3/4" on mine but it's not very early.

You should really mount the motor to get the pulleys aligned correctly for the belts to run true and then work out where the guard needs to go,

          Regards,

          Nick

            Hi Russell,

I have an early super seven here and if you still need photos of the guard I can take some.

            Mike.

              Hi all,

I managed to get it together in the end, however the motor pulley is further back on the spindle than I would ideally like and the grub screw is on the spindle rather than on the key. There is no more adjustment backwards for the motor, and if I pull the motor pulley out any more then the cover won't close. The photo is how I have got it now.

                Hi Russell,

Just took a photo of my guard on the super 7 and photo is in my album headed Myford Super Seven . . I had not realised how close the motor pulley shaft is to the outer guard, but it does just clear by not much more than the thickness of a credit card. The top pulley outer rim has about 1/2" clearance with the rear guard . The top pulley is on as far as it will go. I cut my own rubber guard buffers and these are perhaps a little longer than standard,img_5997.jpgd,

but if yours are fairly short, that could make it tight.

                Mike.

                  Hi Mike,

thanks very much for posting that, it definitely gives me confidence that I have put mine together correctly.

                  Much appreciated smiley
