after struggling with cutting finer threads and getting decent finish on coarse threads due to slowest speed i can run my clarke cl430 is 160 rpm.

i decided to make a hand crank for it, got idea of bedroom workshop where they had used a handlebar stem to make one.

spindle bore on cl430 is 26mm so had to make one from pce of stainless i had lying around and a heave handle from the might come in useful pile.

Someone out there will have modded one down to 30-50 rpm, usually they use a toothed belt on a big wheel which is driven by a small wheel kinda thing

Look at modding sites for other popular lathes (9 x 14 grizzly or whatever) and you will see various clever ideas you can apply to your own unit

Proper reduction backgear fitted to a hobby lathe turns it into a semi-professional machine

I got my Lathe down to about 90 rpm by making a new small motor pulley.
