Mystery Machines from Switzerland

Hello all

I recently saw these two machines for sale near Hamilton, Ontario. The seller describes them as Vertical and Horizontal universal Milling Machines, made by Tourdiamants of Switzerland.

Looking at the pics, I can't identify how they work or what they are designed to do! Lathes.co.uk has nothing on this manufacturer, and a web search brings up nothing, so does anyone have any ideas what they actually are?

The seller also has Hauser and Sip no.3 jig borers and a Kneller lathe for sale, so he is clearly a specialist toolmaker.

They both have a certain Aciera / Deckel air about them with the workpiece mounting system overhung off a vertical dovetail.

I'd guess both are set up to generate offset curves of a range of radii on smaller workpieces. The top one in particular with two rotary devices and a plethora of slides looks immensely capable if you have the imagination and visualisation skills to make the right movements.

I'd have serious comments about the intellect, personal habits and ancestry of the engineer who designed something that actually needed to extensively exploit the capabilities of such machinery.

Such work is very much a CNC thing nowadays.

I agree with Clive, that has a feeling of Aciera about it. An F2 (ish) with modifications perhaps?

That's the one Michael! I did a bit of digging, and the seller is an horologist called Edmund Zygowski. He has a business called Motion Workshops.

I had a look at the Motionworkshops Facebook page, and he looks like an incredibly skilled guy.

Oh, and yes…. whenever I want to dream, I go onto the Anglo-Swiss website and drool at the Astoba UW1. The last one I saw for sale was £18,000, so I think I will keep dreaming.

Edmund Zyvowski is not just an horologist but the best. His work surpasses your average clock repair service. Edmund has designed and created some remarkable clockwork throughout his career and continues to do so all using his imagination. If anyone knows clockwork its Edmund. Reputed and very very highly recommended for any work needed on restoration of antique clockwork or complete new builds.
