        Hi Pekka,

        I ground a v-tool a bit sharper to match 40 degrees on my angle gauge.

        Procedure is simple – set index wheel to 0 just as tool contacts the work. Plunge in 2.5mm.

        Wind out, advance to slide across 2.34mm and repeat.

        I made the key seats in the pulleys by filing.

          For the J section poly vee pullies an 11 tpi thread chasher is a bang on fit.

          I know the purists will say the angle isn't correct but been making these for ages like this.

          Some pulleys run 8 hour days, 6 days a week at 9,000 rpm.

            John,

            I had a chemistry teacher who professed taht the only chemistry worth doing was 'bucket chemistry' – I think you share his pragmatism

            Now all working. My first motor pulley rattled like hell ;-( remade it with a better fit on the spindle and whisper quiet. I'm afraid of leaving teh thing switched on without realising it!

              I actually have a thread mill insert, and I was eyeballing it, but it's not right pitch, nor correct angle…..

                    John H ….quite so.( maybe should have corrected my "spelling /memory" by looking up the ref first)and besides my guess at the spelling of KLAATU might be worse

                            At a minimum order of 100 I doubt it Michael, there are not many people cutting 'V' belt pulleys at the moment and they are all on here !

                            There are some highly specialised tool bits from that firm and mainly for high production rate machines.

                            If an 11Tpi chaser does the job then OK. thats what I will use if I need to cut a pulley. I know I have one.
