Just looked in a filing cabinet for first time in 30 years and found some correspondance from the Vauxhall Craftsmen’s Guild, does anyone else remember this.

When did it stop, mine is dated 1968/9, anyone actually submitted a model?

      This website is rather slow!

Hi Bob, I was a Luton Vauxhall toolroom apprentice 1970 – 74 and haven’t heard of this, what’s it all about?

        Thanks,

        Tony

          Hi,

Vauxhall craftsmans guild i seem to remember this from about 1965 ,i
entered and sent in a model as many did ,it was a look into the future
of car design ,if you viewed some of the entrants from back then they
are not too disimilar from what is being made now.

It is funny I was only thinking about this the other day and wondering what happened to this scheme.

Yes I was one of the Vauxhall Craftsmen, I still have the Award somewhere, but I cannot remember the exact year, somewhere between 1965 and 1968. I recall seeing my entry in one of Vauxhall’s monthly magazines. I found out early on that I was no car designer.

            Regards

            Gray,

You designed a car, as mentioned, looked very like today’s bland curvy shapes, nothing like the squarer 70’s cars.

It was around in about 1970 – I recall it just prior to applying for a student engineering apprenticeship at Luton, though I quickly realised I was hopeless as a designer/model maker.

I still have the booklet, though I’m a bit surprised by the date as I would have expected my interest to have been around 1970.

I remember acquiring a large block of plasticine but never submitted a model.

                    Vauxhall would supply suitable tyres

Yes, I got the brochure then decided that I had more interesting things to do.  Late sixties, I think.
