Hi does anybody know if and where i can get a triangular three position quick change tool post of a size to fit a myford I have a square one but its always in the way of the tailstock when doing small bits of work and it seems to me that a triangular one would be a much better design as it gives alot more clearance Thanks Tony

          Hi There

Myford used to do one called a Tripan.

You might get one of Ebay or if you advertised(free) on here and/or Model Engineer and MEW free ads.

Might cost an arm and a leg.

However, an angle grinder would see part of a standard block removed.

Just chop a large corner off.

          regard David

Tony, I am considering making one for my Chester Multipurpose, which will be based on the design of D Lammas. He wrote a brief article in MODEL ENGINEER on 2 Aug 1985.

Hope this and the Three-sided helps !

Why not get one of the extended tool holders for your existing toolpost, assuming its the Dickson type I find them very handy when using the tailstock.

                  Hello John Kennedy.

Using the application MEW_Indexes **Link** I could find a reference:

Hi Tony , yes you can get a 3 sided tool holder , I bought a bare casting a few years ago at one of the shows, when I remember from whome I will post it up.

                    Ken.

Try Blackgates Engineering. They do 3 sizes of castings for these tool posts.

Or their catalogue is showing them. Have to machine it of course.

Or get 2. One for each hand.

                      Another Ken.

The Lammas one that blackgates do is not a quick change post which is what Tony wanted.

Pic of one on this page

Can't see the point of a casting, easier and cheaper to cut from a block of steel or iron

                          Hi There

Yes, a three way was done but not quick change.

                          regards david

                            Tony,

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I suspect you mean a 4-position click-stop rotating toolpost. If so, well, I had one, it was a right PITA – something always sticks out and slices your wrists, and you can realistically only get 3 tools in it anyway. Do yourself a favour and get a Dickson toolpost and interchangeable holders, they are just in a different league. If I've misunderstood, my apologies.

Hi, thanks for your info guys, looks like it may have to be the diy holder but a quick change version is what i was realy looking for .Im surprised that the far eastern suppliers have not come up with one yet. I have a couple of extended holders but they do tend to chatter on average cuts due to the overhang.
