tallow sticks

does anyone know where to obtain tallow sticks. we used them when i worked for the MOD for tapping blind holes. the tallow acted as a lubricant and also as the tap went down the tallow got forced out along with the swarf allowing the hole to be tapped to its fullest depth. i cant find any reference to them on the internet.

not quite the same, but we used lard when I was an apprentice. Tends to whiff a bit after a year or two on the bench !

You can get tubs of tallow from places like Amazon. Fill the hole with a spatula of some sort.

If you happen to be traveling in northern France or Belgium, look for "Blanc de boeuf" (it is used to fry Pommes frites), inexpensive (3.99 Eur 1 kg).

Any decent plumbing merchant should have it in a pot.
