Salvage squad is on Quest at 3am on Thursday. The team restore a narrow gauge locomotive. I think it is a world war 1 tin turtle.

Are you sure David? I've checked the listings and there's nothing about that. There is no transmission at 3am (in the morning) and Salvage Squad hasn't been on TV for years.

My listings say its on Quest at 07.10. So you can watch it with breakfast (If you can put up with the obnoxious one in the overalls – its never his fault )

Salvage Sqaud has been on for weeks. I have been waiting for the tin turtle one. I have seen it before but would like to watch it again.

My apologies David. Salvage Squad isn't shown on my TV pages of Daily Mail but does appear on my television's Guide. I have mixed opinions on the programme as I watched almost every one the first time around. They always had these ridiculous targets to attain and then wasted time arguing about trivia. I remember the Lola F5000 car that they threw together, that the dreadful Jerry Thurston then drove at a snail's pace around a circuit after telling everyone that he was 'once a racing driver'. The team 'rebuilt' a Tiger Moth at Biggin Hill, and later I met someone who also worked there. It seems that when the cameras stopped rolling, a team of real experts descended on the plane and carried out the lion's share of the work. And didn't Thurston ruin an expensive casting on a lathe? The Thames sailing barge had to be restored properly after their attempts. Needless so say I have now set the recorder to record the rest of the series (also to be found on YouTube)

Well I have just watched the rebuild of the White steam car and my opinion hasn't changed. It's light entertainment for the masses and very little of any interest for enthusiasts. "Lets rebuild the engine and run it in the London-to-Brighton Veterans event without even running her up and down the road" sort of thing. OK to watch for an old grump like me but, oh dear, no wonder they stopped after a couple of series. (You can tell it's getting close to Christmas)

It's telling that series 3 was professional/expert restorers. they probably ran out of museums who were happy to have their prize projects botched in exchange for TV coverage.

Neil, What I hated was the way things were 'set up' by the producer. "Right I want all four of you to walk up the lane in line, then Suggs read this nonsense out". Then there's the "OMG, if we can't fix this grommet, the car won't make the L2B run" (sound of worrying music). And as for measuring the distance between the front and rear axles…..for goodness sake. Engineering can be one of the most interesting of subjects so no need to dumb it down. Remember the autogyro rebuild? They spent ages reaming out a hole so it had to be 'just so'. The damned thing would still have flown if the hole had been half a thou larger or smaller. (I hate myself for watching the others in the series. I didn't know there was THREE series)
