      I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I want to create a 3d image of a badge so I can use it in Fusion 360 and other programs. I have thought of digitizing it by using a probe and a Mach 3 plugin, I have also considered using photos and VisualSFM to create a 3D image and then use meshworks. If someone has done this before or could recommend another solution I would be grateful. All I want to end up with is the ability to use the final 3D image on the surface of wooden boxes and plaques.

          Sounds as if Inkscape may be one option. Never done it myself but John Saunders has a video showing how it's done. Once it's imported as a vector file you can then do all the extrude / cut etc operations on it.

            I've used 123DCatch and Meshmixer with good results. They are both by Autodesk and are free to download and use.

            123DCatch will create a 3D model from a series of digital photos, and Meshmixer allows you to edit 3D models. The STLs can be processed in Fusion.
