I would like to have a go at photo etching, I have most of the questions that I wanted to be answered sorted.

I know that when sorting the photoresist film that you need to use a yellow light, so having the need for the light I dug out my old red photographic light out. Am I correct in saying that would also be suitable for the photoresist film.

Do you have Brian King’s book on the subject.

Brian was a good friend of mine and sadly missed. He used his photo etch techniques on many of his award winning model ships at the ME Exhibition.

Editor Neil in his article used UV light

Quick look at the above mentioned book and that also says UV

Thank you both for the response, but I feel you have misunderstood the question I am referring to, when you apply the resist to the metal before the UV treatment as it can not be applied in natural light.

Yes I have the book, but it mentions a yellow light when applying the resist.

I also have a UV light on order for exposing the film to the printed sheet when transferring the pattern to the resist

I suspect Dalboy is referring to handling the photosensitive film prior to exposure to daylight/UV.  I’m sure red-light will be fine, even less of the blue spectrum than the old yellow lights for dark room work.

Ah, book says “subdued light”, Neil just says avoid sunlight or getting close to fluorescent light.

Yes that is what I was trying to say thank you for putting in a simpler way to what I typed

I would rather play on the safer side of things to avoid it going wrong. Mind you, what sunlight do we get this time of year
