OK with the fad being for 'apps' these days, heres the question.

What is the model engineering app you would most like to have on the device of your choice if you could have whatever you wanted?

The best one I've heard so far is one that could take a picture of what you wanted to model and then give you all the measurements in the scale of your choice. Difficult though because you don't have a yardstick to begin with.

No use to me i am afraid, i really have to make the effort to charge the thing up let alone use it.

I dont think its a fad up until a couple of years ago these were known as programmes. Of course by the time you have inputted the data and or drawn it up, could have done the job 6 times over, one main reason i wont go that route.

I may be a 70ish luddite but prefer and enjoy the old fashioned way. I was teaching G Code in the 90s , D&T got a load of Denfords. But we all liked to get into the "Old workshop" kids used to say it was much more fun.

Always fancied TRICORDER.. or simular ..just scan object and get all dimentions /composition…

One that could pre-heat my workshop, then teleport me to it in mid winter.

Failing that:

Judging by many recent posts, one that gives recommended cutting speeds for various materials (at different diameters etc), might be useful to lots of people.

One thing that does me in every time is that all tool manufacturers making it hard/impossible for you to see the correct tip for chosen tool.

I would quite fancy an proggy where i input the tool code and type of material its used on- Up pops the correct tip for the job. Surprised no one has done that.

Currently work around this one where a catalogue of tools in separate tool holders give differing offsets. There again could do that with both digital readouts.
