Mamod spring belt profile

I want to use a mamod spring belt to drive a small generator, I do not know what profile to machine the pulleys. Any surgestions would be helpfull, I was thinking a 60 degree vee screw cutting tool would do?

Its a half round groove of about 3/32′

If you studied some photos of Mamod items that use the same belt, you might be able to determine what they did.

Do you intend to draw power from the generator? Did Mamod use the belt in a way that it would encounter similar resistance?

I have used 1/16wide x 1/16″ deep with a half round bottom, so a U shape not half round. This is also the size given on th eStuart Williamson which used the same type belt for the governor. The actual belts is approx 1.5mm wide so very little side clearance.

Depending on the size of your generatr and the load it creates you may have problems with belt slip. But as it drove the TE along there would be a reasonable resistance to that

Good morning Paul.  I suspect, as suggested, a U shaped/round bottomed groove would be best.  A vee groove might tend to grab a round belt and sap some of the all important power.
