Poping in to say hi. I’ve been involved with stationary, road and maritime steam for the past thirty years or so, but mainly on full-size.
Earlier this year I purchased a 4″ scale model of a Burrell Single Crank Compond engine that had been assembled from a kit from Steam Traction World by the previous owner. There are design aspects of the kit that I’m not keen on, so I will be replacing parts that are more true to full-size.
In my garage I have a Warco (Major?) milling machine that I’m learning to use and have recently picked up a Myfold ML4 lathe which I’m in the porcess of installing and repairing.
As suggested above, my plan is to machine and fit replacement parts for my traction engine, which will include adding adding third speed gearing, springing to the front axle and rim brakes. For these projects casting are available for some parts, so it’ll be a mix of machining some parts from raw castings and some from stock steel.
Hoping to learn plenty here and avoid damaging too many tools or wrecking castings
