My small workshop has an RSJ running from the loco "shelf" to the bench. With a bit of imagination, it could have projected outside the doors to aid loading, but the loco isn't finished yet. A sliding hook/ block and tackle run on the lower web of the RSJ

The chap I bought my lathe from used a hydraulic scissor lift platform truck to move his loco around, came in useful to load Myford into my car. He also used it to load loco into his car.

I've got a proper (Weber – Italian) engine crane that can lift a 1 tonne machine – not one of the Chinesium rubber constructions. When I refocus on a different fad in the workshop, I can move the machines around to make more room etc. And when I've moved house, it's made the loading and unloading a lot easier. So a proper crane is now a core part of my collection. Doesn't fold up but I can sort of tessellate it with the machinery (currently the TIG welder) to save space.

I use a hydraulic table lift. It moves everything for the shelves to the car. 5" gauge that is. 4" Traction engine is a different matter.

I think it depends on what your moving as to the specific movement??

I used one of these to save my back and a 6x5ft trailer to transport it around, I modified the tail gate on the trailer to unfold making a 2 piece ramp.
