Gas Burners?

Some years back I bought a long neck tube to use my Sievert torch for weed burning. The only problem was that only my smallest “standard” burners actually fit the stem. The large burners I have only fit the Clarke torch handle I have. I found that whilst the largest of my small burners does the job it often goes out if there is a bit of wind. Can I assume that if I buy a large Sievert burner this won’t happen so often? Also are there any other cheaper burners that will fit their stem and what size to get. You can get what Sievert call a “roofing” burner but for only occasional use it’s a bit pricey at £28. Lastly how many different burner fittings are there? Sorry for so many questions. TIA.

The wind blowing out the flame on your burner is a normal thing, I try to work my weed burner with my back to the wind. Wilko sell a weed burner and B & Q sell the gas bottles.

After many years of trying expensive weed killers that don’t work I now use my sievert torch with long neck tube, I think it is about 18 inches long and the 2944 burner. This does the job on approx 1200 sq foot of block paving, I try to do it on a calm evening and don’t get problems with it going out, I have tried Wilco weed burners but they take forever.

I’ve got the 750mm neck tube. What handle have you got, the standard one or the one with the pilot flame? The pilot flame one looks ideal but I can’t justify the expense for the amount of use it would get. Does your setup with the 2944 burner blow out very often?

Slightly off topic, but an option is the down the weedkiller route, not for everyone I know, but does kill the roots. Professional versions of a popular brand are 4 times the strength and a fifth the price of stuff normal stuff. only for professional use…….of course.

Agreed Bob. I don’t mind incinerating the drive once in a while to get rid of the weeds, I think I just need a better burner!

I have a paraffin fired weed burner, 3"+ diameter "blow torch", very noisy and to be used with care. Great for starting bonfires.

The problem is superstition. We are taught as children don't walk on the cracks between pavement slabs. have you noticed the warn paths in the grass in the park. So teach your children to only walk on the paving joints and make them do two rounds of every joint every day.
