Coolant Hose Thread

Can any one help identifi this thread its 20tpi and the OD is 0.884 ish, I need to make an adapter for it but could do with some measurements if any one can help.

Hi Alan .204,

Try the link for starters. If the adaptor is going to be permanent, you only need to be close, as your yellow part appears to be plastic.

Did you use a thread gauge on the 20tpi or just count the threads against a rule?

PG16 is 22.5mm x 1.25mm ( 0.885 x 20.32tpi) though an unlikely thread for a hose.

Locline only list NPT and BSP fittings and yours is too fine for either

EDIT. your sizes must be wrong, if that thread is .844 wide then its about 0.750 long and no way are ther 15 turns of thread.

Hi Alan,

Is your sizing accurate? The normal thread for these is 1/4" BSP which is 19tpi and 0.518" OD.

Or it could be 1/2 BSP which is 0.825" OD and 14 tpi, or even 5/8 BSP which is 0.902" and 14 tpi.

BSP sizes refer to the standard pipe bore, not the outside diameter which can be confusing.

Hi guys I've had another look this evening and the thread would seam to be metric fine 12 x1.25 as I don't have a tap that size I've had to order one so I wont for definite till I get hold of the tap, will let you know what occurs.

Just had a measure of mine, same as yours blue pipe, orange pipe connector, and it is definitely 1/4 BSP, 19TPI.

I know there is satisfaction in making stuff but unless you want to produce a quantity of adaptors why not just get a ready made fitting from a plumbers/hydraulics/pneumatics supplier?

You could probably buy a box of plastic fittings for the cost of one tap.

Is the part in question genuine LocLine or another brand? My LocLine adaptor is definitely 1/4"NPT, ie, 18 tpi, and tapered. I'd be surprised if the thread was M12 x 1.25, a parallel thread would be illogical in this application. A NPT or BSPT thread would be appropriate, as they are self-sealing if the holes are drilled and tapped correctly.

On the LocLine website NPT adaptors are shown in orange, BSPT adaptors are in blue.

Hi Alan,

1/4" BSP is close to M12 x 1.25". It approximates as M13 x 1.34…

And as it's the standard size for many of these systems…

Done it chaps it turned out to be half inch by 20 TPI UNF fits perfect, I got these from Chine for a pound each that maybe explains the strange thread.
