Having just purchased a part made Clayton Undertype wagon, I was trying to adjust the valve settings. There is a small reversing pin entering the engine body and going into the slides. On the drawings it shows a 1/16th hole drilled through near the end, mine has a small groove filed in, bot not a hole, and the end has had the diameter reduced. for some reason it has stopped working, i.e. stopped operating the reverse. I cannot see anywhere in the Robyn Dyer build articles how this reverse is supposed to work, any help gratefully received. I wondered if this pin had been loctited? but dont think this is correct?

          Hello David,

I've made a Clayton wagon and two of my own Q1 design with this design of valve gear and I don't think there are any 1/16th holes in the plans. You may be misreading the drawings, the only dimension of that size is the recess depth where the slides are set into the carrier part.

If you look at ME4381, July 2010, I describe how to make the Joy slides with plenty of photos. The Clayton used the same arrangement but upside down.

          Regards

          Nick

            Hello Nick,

I very much appreciate your reply, I will check that magazine, but my drawings definately show a hole in the pin that goes into the sllide mechanism, from outside engine casing(reverser) On sheet 5 (of 11) it shows a 1/16th hole on the "lifting pin" which I "guessed" would take a 1/16th pin which would alter position of the slides? Or am I wy off base? I will go and check on my M/ES!
