          Hi There

          Without checking,

I would think 12 on crankshaft, 24 on camshaft and 20 as an iddler.

Four strokes need two to one gearing so that is the 12 and 24.

Idler can be any convenient number of teeth so 20 it is.

            Whats the question?

Gear details are given on page 302 and as david says 12 on the crank, 24 on the valve and a 20 idler to give the spacing required.

ETW once wrote of how he had striuggled to try and get someones version of one of huis designs to work for ages, without success. In the end he tried to reset the valve gear and in doing so he discovered it had (something like) a 20 and a 39 tooth gear. the maker said "it was all I had, and I thought it would be near enough".

I would have thought that an uneven number for the idler would have been better for wear, ie., 19 or 21, but it proberbly of little concequence on a motor that is going to have fairly low running hours, (not thousands), just seem to remember some where in the past reading something about this. Stick to the drawings, my ramble over. Ian S C
