Bristol Show 2015

No Bristol show thread and it's starting tomorrow, 14th which is the longest showday, 10 am to 6pm.

I'm thinking of going tomorrow if I can get up early so might see some of you? Not seen Springbok on here recently so hope he is ok.

Can't do it this year, Gert MKll isn't well enough to travel the long distance involved. Bummer as we did it last year and both enjoyed it, in fact got there around 11:00 and got thrown out at the end.

Spent around £200 which has got to be an all time low for me

After a lot of rain and heavy fog in the morning I needed WD40 for the job it was made for and got away later than intended arriving at 10.30 to a 15 minute crawl from the A38 into the car park, which was already nearly full. That's the field not just the tarmac bit.

Outside displays were somewhat curtailed by the rain to 3 traction engines and a couple of stationaries. Inside many clubs and traders in their regular positions with a few new ones and plenty of new models to keep me occupied until 5.30 when I returned home via Asda at Cribbs Causway which has the cheapest petrol. I was saved a few quid by dithering about over a set of castings which had gone by the time I returned.

In terms of models and trade, although no Warco or RDG or other mainliners it is equal to Sandown and well worth my 220 mile round trip.

Will get the photos after a coffee break.

The traction engines outside had to dodge a few showers but kept steaming. The Foden short tractor will be a fine sight when finished.

With the rising cost of metal we may all have to make do with wood tools – even the 'rusty' screwdriver blade is actually wood.

The ornamental turners had a rare (3 known) honing device from about 1900

and a treadle operated honing wheel to a design from 1800 (the brass disc rotates on a vertical axis and would hold abrasive) seen with goniostat to hold the tool.

This LMS loco looked fantastic in the flesh but unfortunately the flash has emphasised the screw heads and rather spoiled the effect. From 15ft away the meccano holes are not obvious so it looked like any regular model.

A line up of very nice engines from the host club with Brian Thompson who can't keep away from shows even after retiring from the Southern Fed chair along with Norman Rogers Treasurer of both Bristol SMEE and Southern Fed who also built the blue loco.

The 2 1/2 Gauge Association was concentrating on narrow gauge this time. Quite a range of different models on display and many available plans and castings available from them. The 'coffee pot' is shortly to be made available as a plan or was it to be a series of articles. Drat can't remember but JB may read this and enlighten us.

I spoke at some length to the very pleased new owner of these two engines. Now who could have made those not another JB (different from the one mentioned above) Whoops, should have cropped the bottom one a bit before uploading.

Would have loved to see that cylinder boring machine with differential gearing under power.

Perhaps next year. Bristol is always good for the models.
