I remember repairing a Perspex windshield on my motorbike fairing with Chloroform I got from a chemist. Probably not a good idea to ask for it now though.

Father discovered that the secret was to ask for industrial chloroform. Mind you, that was some years ago and I have my doubts whether it would still work.  I get bottles of dichloromethane through the internet without any problems.  It’s a very close relative of chloroform, which chemically is trichloromethane.

Oh DAVE !!!!!! you can be SO hurtful, so you can !

But at the same time, so accurate !

Not trying to be hurtful Larry!  I am committed to improving quality though, and that includes my own blunders!  I’m not here to have my ego stroked.

Although Model Engineering is a hobby, there’s plenty of room for continuous improvement.  That means taking criticism on board, being open to alternatives, and keeping up-to-date.

By the bye, some seem to consider that anyone pointing out mistakes must themselves always be perfect.  That’s naive, I don’t know all the answers, nor do I always hit the target.   Not the point: my message is we can all do better.   The techniques I suggest are all commonplace in industry, and I’m surprised Model Engineers don’t practice them already.  Industry go bust if they stick in the past and fail to keep up with the competition.  Model Engineering is the same – we have to move with the times.

Apologies if what I say seems tactless, but I assume none of us are snowflakes!

            Dave,

I designed and made equipment for dispensing the CA into bottles. This was at the behest of my friends CA manufacturing operation. So I do know how to do the dispensing safely.

I think it might be timely for participants to re-visit Bill Phinn’s opening post

Andrew and I are probably at opposite ends of the usage scale, whilst Bill nicely represents the middle-ground !

Seems we have discussed everything-but Bill’s question.

I have a number of 1oz plastic concertenia bottles into which a newly opened container of CA is decanted . The bottle is then compressed until the glue exudes from the nozzle and the cap is applied . It’s a system that works for me and is one I first used “int towd days ” for both fixer and developer chemicals for use in developing and printing initially B+W and then colour film and prints .

Not at all Dave, you are quite right in what you say, no harm in calling a spade, a spade ! I,m araid if I was ever a snowflake, I melted a long time ago. Workshops tend to have that effect !

                    Hi Kiwi Bloke

                    The world has gone mad…

It certainly has the Librarians decreed MEK did not fit there ideas —- so it was renamed EMK, cos they didn’t care that chemists named compounds by carbon chain length.
