Have set up my band saw and its cutting square I'm quit pleased with it, but I can't seam to get the blade to run on the drive wheel properly it's half way off the wheel it still runs and cuts ok, but it doesn't seam to matter how I adjust the top wheel I can't get it to run against the lip of the wheel its a SIP 6 inch saw can't find an adjuster for the drive wheel, any advice please.

      Regards Alan.

If you can't do it by adjusting the tracking of the top wheel have you checked that the blade guides are not pushing the blade forwards, when running but not cutting the blade should be just clear of the rear guides.

I asume you are talking of adjusting the tracking not the tension of the top wheel when you say no matter how you adjust it.

When you say blade guides I take it you mean the rollers, they are just above the back of the blade or maybe just touching, when its cutting the blade stays in the same place on the wheel it doesn't go back on the wheel, it doesn't seam to matter how I adjust the tracking wheel, and the blade is tight when running, if I slacken the blade and push it back on to drive roller tighten the blade it runs half way of the roller straight away and stays there, strange.

Alan what are you adjusting on the top wheel, just the tension handscrew or the hex bolt which alters the angle of the top wheel?

The angle of the wheel started with the bolt nearly out and and adjusted the wheel bit by bit till the blade runs a fraction of the flange at the back of the wheel.

Assuming it's the "generic" 6" bandsaw, the adjustment is by one of the 3 bolts on the metal strip – the one nearest the motor. As JasonB suggests, it sounds as if you are just tightening the blade, not changing the angle of the wheel.

Don't you have the handbook? You could probably download one if you Google something like "6" bandsaw", as there are innumerable brand versions of it out there, millions made etc.

I slacken the tension on the blade befour I adjust the angle of the blade.

Sorry meant to say the angle of the wheel, going out side to have another go at the dam thing.

leave the tension on and turn the wheel over by hand while adjusting the tracking bolt and watch which way the blade moves on the wheel. Is it a new machine or old one with worn bearing in the wheel?

Its a new machine I bought a few weeks ago then three days after I bought it a customer of mine gave me another one but that need's a part welding on it before I can do any thing with it, the welder's away being repaired (another thing that didn't work from new) I've had a look at it and think Jason may have a point about the rollers pushing the blade down a bit to much, it's to late to do any thing more tonight so will try again tomorrow night when home from work, just remembered going out for a meal tomorrow night (farther in laws birthday) so may not get a chance to do anything with it till the weekend, thanks for the advice guys it's much appreciated will get there in the end.

                          Regards Alan.

I thought what Jason meant was the roller (bearing) behind the blade in the guide head each side of the cutting area of the blade. If this is set too far forward it will always push the blade off the wheel no matter how the tracking is adjusted.

By "guide head" I mean the part with three bearings, two just touch the sides of the blade to keep it upright, the third is behind and stops the blade being pushed back. They are all adjustable. Loosen the one at the back in each head, then push the blade fully onto the drive wheel, the teeth should be just over the front edge, then adjust the back rollers to just kiss the blade.

I can't remember what the makers call this part, so hope you know what I mean.

Its sorted finally I had another go at the adjustments on the saw and still the same thing happened, so after staring at it for a few mints I remembered reading a thread on here a few weeks ago about band saw blades from Tuff Saws, I bought one so I thought is it the dam blade, so after fitting the new one and switching it on the blade runs just where it's supposed to and the cutting speed compared to the blade that came with it is tremendous,

So thanks to you guys for the advice which made me think and also thanks to Tuff Saws for the blade, just ordered two more can't recommend them enough.

                                Regards Alan.
