9F loco info

Hi am currently making a 5 inch gauge 9 F. loco by Les Warnett. I am building the ash pan and wish to know the width of the steal oblong ring that goes outside of the grate bars.on the top of the ash pan.It is 1/8th thick steel and surrounds the grate. There is no information on the drawing as to its material size used except for thickness which is 1/8th Can you help me with this information. also if this part is soldered in place or not.
