Hello, just thought I'd introduce myself (apologies, no questions!). I'm relatively new to the hobby, but I have been an aeronautical engineer for 26 years and have had some machining experience during my apprenticeship. I am currently kitting out my workshop, and have been trawling through the forums here, particularly those concerned with deciding on which lathe to buy…it is a minefield and the decision is going to be a difficult one! I won't ask the question again because there is enough information here and on the web. I am interested in building traction engines, 1" or 2" scale. I did start to build a Clayton undertype with a friend 21 years ago before I left home to go to university. Unfortunately I have lost contact with that friend and have no idea if it was ever completed. I am looking forward to getting started!

        Cheers,

        Paul.

              Hello Paul and welcome…..

Its looks like the metalworking bug you caught 21 years ago has finally got you. Gee it is hard to shake off! I hope the recovery is as enjoyable as mine has been for many years.

And this forum is the perfect place to convalesce and compare notes with other suffers.

              Cheers
              John.

                  Hello Paul,

Welcome to MEW. You will find a lot of helpful information here. Also many users with a wealth of experience. I work as a mechanical engineering draftsman and have little practical machining experience and am building a 6" scale Ruston Proctor traction engine. I know how to specify instructions to the workshop with a drawing but running a lathe or mill is a different matter but I am slowly getting there.

Also check http://www.tractiontalkforum.com and search in the Model section for more info.

                  Lots of luck, PaulJ
