      Hi,

I have just finishing building my workshop on the side of the house. DIY and aeromodeling are my main hobbies.

I have a Taig lathe which has been great for small things but now I "need" more and bigger tools.

So I have started looking at lathes in the 7" to 10" max swing size, around 15" long. This has been fun and I am in no hurry. Newer Chinese or older British would be fine.

I am also looking for a Mill, something like a Warco WM 16 would be fine.

I am sure I will be back with questions but right now I am just reading and learning the landscape.

      Cheers

      Tim

          Hello Tim,

Welcome aboard, I hope the observations will bring inspiration and knowledge for you to make use of in your planning. There will be no shortage of advise.

I'll start off proceedings if I may; pick the best equipment you can afford rather than be guided by price alone.

          Regards

          Brian

            Hi Tim,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll find yourself at home here. There is a wealth of knowledge waiting to be tapped into.

I'm in Weymouth by the way, so if you ever need help in person, help shifting something heavy, or need a loan of any tooling etc to get you started then give me a shout. I have a Fobco Star pillar drill, a Union T&C grinder, a round column chineese mill, a Tom Senior Junior Mill, a Harrison L6 Lathe and an Axminster bandsaw.

              Welcome Tim.

I have a WM16 mill & a WM250V-F lathe, both of which so far are serving me admirably well …. fingers & all else X'd.

… pick the best equipment you can afford rather than be guided by price alone…

all well & good if you have the funding to allow extra for tooling, but if limited then you are more or less restricted by price to some extent.

              George.
