So I just tried to create a new thread in the Tea Room about facebook blocking Australian subscribers and it was deleted by an unknown moderator.

Is censorship of fair dinkum topics now banned?'

Maybe this message will also never see the light of day so to the forum police I must bid you goodbye and well done to shut down free speech on this great forum.

It's too political for in here Danny, some folk get upset by these things so the mods try to minimise it

At the end of the day this place is for ME stuff, not political cagefights

(Personally speaking I'd happily cagefight to the death on a daily basis)

I completely agree with you on censorship, facebook is awful, which is why I only log in maybe 4 times a year, to play devil's advocate here, have you quit using Facebook also? If so doesn't that solve the problem?

Just for the record, I meant quit using it, not delete it, I understand the need to use it to keep in touch with people you know, who live around the world, just that when people don't use it constantly, it's not making profit for the owners by viewing their ads etc.

Given the damage that is now being recognised as being caused by American companies such as Facebook, then I personally think that information and proposals such as that being promulgated by the Australian government should be shouted from the hilltops etc. to ensure that everyone, and I do mean everyone, is aware of what is going on.

Danny, I don't know what was said, and hence don't know whether I agree with you or not, but your post does imply that Facebook are (unsurprisingly) engaging in bullying tactics in order to get their way. All power to your government.

Come back Danny, we'll miss you.

                  Regards,

                  Peter G. Shaw

Dunno, I'm the only Moderator on at the moment and it wasn't me.

If a colleague did it, it would have been for a breach of the Terms and Condition or Code of Conduct. Both links are immediately above the 'Add Posting' button for easy reference.

Don't be offended if material occasionally goes over the line. Even moderators get it wrong sometimes…

                    blush

But can everyone avoid getting embroiled in a political or potentially libellous discussion about the Australian issue please. Plenty of other forums on the web for frank exchanges of opinion!

                    Dave

+1 for Peter' s view. ( where is that "like" button! )

I accept that this is not a forum for politics, but there have been mentions on here of Facebook being involved in the workings of this forum in some way, so we have a legitimate interest in it's doings.

People, this is nothing to do with politics, it is to remark that facebook have blocked many Australians from vital services such as bushfire, floods and covid updates as well as protection services such as domestic violence websites, Facebook in Australia

Next it might be you. All because they were asked to pay for content that was plagiiarised from Australian websites.

I have no idea why my original post was blocked but common sense seems to have prevailed.

I thought that was what the Tearoom was all about, to comment on non model engineering matters that might affect us all and facebook prying into our private lives sure fits the bill for a bit of discussion.

As Ady1 says it is an argument between FB and the Aussie Government so Political, discussion of which is against forum rules.

Best to nip it in the bud and let us moderators get on with better things than have to sort out a thread that will get more political as it progresses.
