Induction Hob problem

We have an DeDetrich induction hob which has served us well for many years. And I like it – especially in a small kitchen.

Recently the two right hand elements have refused to respond to the touch switches. Intermittently and with no obvious pattern, except perhaps that the not-responding periods are growing. There is a touch sensor also on the right which makes it child safe or something and that appears to still work.

The left had side continues to work, but having only two elements is not convenient.

Does any one have an idea of what might be wrong and how to fix it? I have some electronics background and tools, but old and quite limited.

Hi. Not sure if the control panel is the same as Miele's but they have a problem with theirs on certain models. A couple of small caps blow and cause the touch panel to stop responding. It may be worth Googling the fault and see if there is a fix available. I did caps on my M8's Miele hob in less than an hour when it packed up.

A few years ago I encountered the same problem with an induction hob in a self catering holiday apartment. Intermittently worked which just caused confusion as I didn't know if I was using it correctly. When googled it was a common known issue.

I have a "Brandt" (spelling?) model which is the same as yours as far as I am aware. This fault happens on odd occasions and responds to turning off the power for 30 seconds.

Thanks all. I've not tried the turning it on and off again (at least not recently) but you would think I'd no about that as an IT bloke.

I have had a look on ebay and it looks like it's either easy (apart from pulling the oven and hob out) or expensive. To the point of buy a new hob…

When I did my M8's Miele hob with the same type of fault it was a case of replacing two capacitors at a cost of 60 pence. The cost of repair by the oven shop was going to be £600.00 or £1400 replacement cost.

Just think of all the jobs you've put into jeopardy by your measly 60p repair Oldiron. From the poor little Chinaman assembling new hobs, shipping contractors, import agents, retailers, deliverymen and ultimately waste recyclers to send the atomised parts back to China, shame on you.
