      I'm finding the chuck guard on my SX3 a complete pain especially when using end mills with R8 collets and the work clamped onto the bed so I'm looking to do away with it.

      I have a couple of ideas about how to go about it but would like suggestions on what is the best / safest way to do this ? do I by-pass the micro switch by disconnecting the two wires and joining them together or just close the contact on the switch or would this cause overheating issues within in the switch.

          If it's anything like the SX2.7 then undo the nut on the top of the metal rod that the guard pivots on and slide it out. No need to do anything to the switch as it is only when the cam on the shaft rotates to open that the microswitch is depressed

            _igp2511.jpg_igp2506.jpgI made a versatile guard from a cheap TV mount which has a drawbar through it to use the tee slots in the table. As we have a supply of 6mm polycarbonate sheet at the museum, a variety of QD guards fit on the arm.

              I removed the guard on my SX3 on day one. No idea where it is. I had forgotten it ever existed actually.

                I removed the guard from my WM250 soon after I got it back in 2012; never missed it. I just took the spindle out of the plastic holder & left the switch in the closed position. I now use a full length acrylic guard of my own making with attachment to the bec via brackets & neodyniiinnnnumm thinking magnets. It has been called an aquarium with one side missing.. devil

                  Same as Simon " I removed the guard on my SX3 on day one " Can't remember doing anything else. Just left the switch in the guard closed position.

                    I removed the guard on my Chester Comet lathe the day I got it, main reason being, it was made from sheet steel and I couldn't see a damn thing through it!
