I remember seeing a comment about some chrome type paint in one of the threads and I remember thinking must file that away for further use. Only problem is the brain cell it was filed in has since retired and refuses to open up and reveal its' contents.

I seem to remember the price was around £20 for a small pot, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

      Cheers

      Roger

You can get "chrome" spray paint from most car spares sellers/Halfords and many other retail outlets such as The Range. It needs meticulous preparation and etch primer & good undercoat to be effective. I have used it for many repairs to machines & car parts with usually good results.

          regards

Thanks, I did know about the option in the marketplace but it was this particular link I was after as I think it would suit my needs best.

I'm restoring a 34" model Fairey Huntsman and need to build a pulpit rail for the bow. my options are to fabricate out of 3mm stainless steel, silver solder or soft solder if possible and then highly polish or use 3mm brass, solder and then use this chrome paint, which has high opacity and would be quite successful (hopefully smiley) in giving the required finish.

Molotow liquid chrome pens are very good.

                  Fairy Huntsman? Very nice.

When my son paints models with his airbrush, such as MIG 17 or Lightning, he undercoats the silver with black as apparently this makes it more realistic.

Roger – the other material to consider is nickel silver – type of brass but silver in colour and easily soldered. Metalsmith ( link ) have it listed as nickel silver round bar in 1/8 inch at £2.70 for an 18inch length. Might save you quite a bit of hassle.

Never dealt with Metalsmith – they just came up with an internet search.

I have used this copper spray paint which is very good they do it in chrome as well if the chrome one is anything like the copper then it may be of use to you. The inside of this was done using it

                                Hi Roger!

+1 on the molotow paint pens, they also do a refill bottle that You can use through the airbrush, not cheap but I think a bit more resilient than Alclad 2 paints

Roger, forget soft solder and paint. Go for stainless and silver solder, much more durable. CUP alloys are your friends.

                                    Regards Ian.
