As a hobby project (as well as the 1:6 ratio WW2 Tank build!) im making a quite large Compound Stationary engine. I need some biggish lumps of cast (hate ali so not using it) for the base and cylinders, roughly a 6 inch cube would do. Before goung to a foundry and having things made for me I wanted to see if anywhere sold these things off the shelf. I can get ingots but thats no use to me. Any suggestions please?
Round sections of commercial cast iron bar are more readily available if you cannot get square. It would be cheaper than having something specially cast.
If you know what you want and can make a pattern then a casting would be the way to go ! If the idea appeals and you need help PM me, it could save a lot of machining.
Not a lot of good while we are all confined to barracks, but if you can manage with something less than a 6" cube, I have bits cut from a fairly hefty engine flywheel that you could have, just to liberate the space.
