Hi,

I have a Warco WM16 VS and wanted to know if anyone has changed or converted the battery depth read out to mains

As typically happens every time I come to use the Mill and want to set a depth of cut the Battery has died on me – starting to get fed up having to keep buying batteries

Any comments welcome

What battery type does it take? The digital verniers seem either to have LR44 type button cells, 1.5V, or CR2032 coin cells which are I think 3.6 V. You could easily power the unit using an old wall wart phone charger for example, but the volts will need dropping to match the battery. As the current drain is minimal this should be easy using a shunt regulator with diodes (conventional or zener depending on voltage).

Thanks for that, its on the CR2032 type coin cell

The only problem I have is understanding what you have described as not electronically competant

There must be a problem there, my WM 14 has the 2032 batts and they last ages, are you turning display off when not using mill?

Hi Mick, as and when I remember yes but I still don't seem to get a very long life out of it probably a couple of months at a go, have been fitting Duracell – not sure how long they have been of the shop's shelf

To be honest I haven't monitored its life but will when I fit the next battery

are there better brands that offer longer life spans?

I too have experienced annoying battery failures at the most inconvenient times but nowadays I will only buy the silver oxide variety of button and coin cell types. I generally get about a year from the batteries in my calipers and the DROs that I've fitted to my lathe but I am quite careful about switching them off. Whatever you do, don't buy from supermarkets or other high street outlets, they never seem to have much shelf life left and you will pay way over the odds for them. One of the best sources that I have found is from ARC (usual disclaimer) and I always keep a spare set to hand just in case.

I use CR2032's, usually from ArcEuro ( usual disclaimer ) & they usually last most of the year, I last changed mine approx' Sept / Oct last year & its' still going well. I've just change the batteries in my DRO remote read outs & they've been in since last year. As with all my digi stuff I make sure everything is switched off. I am awaiting CR2032, 2 x 5 packs from China , off eBay, cheap as… so will see how they perform.

Same as others get mine from Arc 👍. Obviously depends how much you use the readout mine last a good year.I have dro fitted to x & y axis maybe should have got the z readout as well pferhaps one day
