thanks friend, yes, swiss tooling is underrated, anyone tried it, fell in love, and i'm in love already with mine lol.Did you try some of the swiss tooling before?

The only European tooling I've had my hands on has been… Bahco, Stahwille, Vallorbe, ( Swiss files ? ) all good quality stuff back in the day.

nice, swiss manufacturers are rare because it is one of the most expensive countries for manpower, machines are high quality here, ever heard of Badog? they make CNC machines that makes your jaw drops,since i use one,i wouldn't buy anything else.

I have been a Schaublin machine user all the time I worked for LEICA, now retired I use a Seig 3 and Myford ML10.

I have lots of Swiss bought tooling and I agree it is the best, to me that is..

Nice,i bet they are robust, so you enjoy the old school machining,that's awesome. Ever considered using a CNC machine?

Hello Paul, As I am an old guy I cannot justify any more machines, I am 79 this month! I do have interest and follow details about CNC. The nearest is to fit DRO's to my mill.

Let us know which part of Switzerland you live. I was in Heerbrugg for a while on a course with LEICA. I had a look at their machine shop and was amazed. This was just after they bought out KERN.

Just had a look at the Badog CN2 Looks a good machine, I was also a machine engraver using Alexander machines and at one time had 2 full time workers engraving and we could not keep up with the work load. All superceded by CNC engraving now. Paul, people get older you know so I retired when I was made redundant in Oct last year, at age 78. Now I have not got time to do all I want to do.

Give us some idea of what yo do with the BADOG please, it might stimulate me to do more!

Good that you have time now. ok, i have bought a while back a Badog Swiss Artisan 22 with a 4th axis and Mach3 software, i had added a 2.2 kw milling head instead of the standard Kress. the machine is pretty rigid and can even mill metal plates if i need..here are some pics.

Hello Paul, and welcome to the forum. Plenty of interesting topics always on the go.

Yes, without a doubt Swiss machines and tooling are top notch, in the same class as German. Aciera, Shaublin ect from Switzerland and Hermle, DMG ect from Germany.

I use Leica levels almost every day ,and they are the gold standard for Levels / Theodolites. Also had 2 failed attempts at the Eiger north face during the nineties weather cut us short just before the "Traverse of the gods " on the first attempt, and the second icefield on the second. Bernese Oberland is stunning., Picture postcard stuff.
