I have had a long running subscription for MEW but did not receive my copy of MEW 234 which came out just over a month ago. After a prolonged battle, and a number of broken promises to send me a replacement, I have now been told that the issue is no longer in stock and a replacement is not possible.

I have bought every single issue of MEW since it was launched and still retain all copies since 1995 and want to continue my collection without any gaps. If I had known getting a missing subscription copy would be so difficult I would have bought a copy from a newsagent in good time but I have missed the boat there too.

If anybody out there has a copy of MEW 234 they no longer need (I know this is a long shot since most people like to keep their copies ) I would be extremely happy to buy it at the cover price plus postage plus any further bribe necessary!

Neil should have a couple of spare copies for use in an emergency.

Long shot – but could you phone up W H Smiths to see if they could help? Unsold mags and the like used to get send back to a distribution point for recycling.

              Hello Douglas,

I can't see how an issue 4 weeks old has sold out, I think something has gone awry with the new system.

I'll make sure it gets sorted out, but people I need to contact won't be around until early next week.

Thanks for that input Neil, I too thought it was very strange when I got the email yesterday since I would have thought unsold magazines from newsagents would be returned to the publisher.

Perhaps I am being punished for mistreating one of my machines in the past crying

Sadly returns are just restricted to the covers as proof of non-sale. Very few magazines that have been on a shelf being thumbed through by browsers for a month are 100% condition, and we can't send out tatty issues.

The issues were never put into stock at the subscription bureau until the issue went off sale.

MHS have them in stock it would seem in their back issues section. I suppose thats the probelem with a separate subs department one does not know what the other has.

Would be nice if there was a system in place so that if teh subs company had no stock they could get MHS to send out a copy from their stock to keep the subscriber happy.

                        Doug,

If you don't get this sorted to your satisfaction, you are welcome to my copy for the cost of the postage. I recycle mine and just refer to the digital versions if I need to. You can send me a message through this web site, but be warned, I don't check my messages very often – so don't expect a rapid reply.

                        John

                          Well spotted Jason,

MHS do send them out, but when I checked this morning MHS was not showing it.

I think David is correct and they don't go on MHS straight away.

When I was editor I was sent 10 copies (quantity could be changed at editor's request) for any readers who did not get their copy. At the end of the year I took any surplus copies for sale at the Model Engineer Exhibition.
