What sort of plating on a Bridgeport?

The zero-set dials on a Bridgeport have a really nice bright-yet-matte silver plating. I'm pretty sure the base metal of the dial is steel.

Does anyone know what type of plating it is?

You are right the base is steel. They are "Satin Chromed" to give the nice non glare and long lasting finish.

Thanks Chris. Is it a regular plating, i.e. commonly available? Is it practical for home-workshop plating?
