      Hi,

Just letting people know about a programme on BBC 4 tonight. "The joy of train sets: the model railway story". 9pm Wednesday 23/1/2013. Some of us might enjoy it.

It's a shame that steam powered larger loco models were not covered in greater detail – model engineering is far too complicated for the BBC.

An interesting bit of social history.  Not really my thing but I can admire the skills.  Nice to see Mike Sharman and his Cramptons though, as I have his book. Does anybody know which programme the clip was from?

I may be wrong, but I am getting the impression that there is less derision being poured on people who have technical interests these days – perhaps as a reaction to the failures of the money manipulators?

                      Gray,

Thanks – I did wonder as we had a clip of Bob's talking head but I couldn't remember the name of the series. I used to watch it but I was probably more interested in model aircraft at the time. I didn't know that some were YouTube, I''ll have a search.

                      cheers,

                      Rod

When I were a lad, he was Bob Symes-Shutzman, if I recall correctly. Model World was a great series and an inspation, shame they don't do something similar instead of the pdding on 95% of the channels.

Nice to see he is still going strong as I see his name/ face in the magazines now and then.
