Hello all. Recently purchased a live steam model – new build. Eyesight is not so good these days so it was only when I got it home and put on my "inspectors" spectacles that I realised how badly finished it was. Crude machining and poor finishes all over. So bad in fact that I have stripped it down (what a bl***y mess) and it sits on my bench waiting for rework where possible and replacement where necessary. I know, my fault, I should have had the right specs on.
Before I start work on tarting this piece up can I pick brains on finishes? I have read about powder coating and it sounds good but is there an easier way of sealing in finishes? Putting it simply, if I get a nice shiny finish on some brass or steel components, how do I ensure they stay that way = preferably long term?
Thanks – Stuart
