My apologies if this post repeats a past one, but I am looking for the original publication of Edgar Westbury’s M E 1/4” Precision Drill – a set of castings of which I purchased back in the 1970s, and subsequently built.

I gather that the article appeared in the four Copies for June and July 1942 of the “Model Engineer”. Does anyone have copies of these?

I looked on Archive.org but these editions are missing from the archive.

My plans have all rotted, bar the General Arrangement. Does anyone still have them?

If you have any of these I would be most grateful if you could let me know please.

Is there anyone out there who has also built this drilling machine?

If do, how did/do you power it and with what belting did/do you transmit the power?

Originally it was intended for 5/15”(?) round leather belting as was used for treadle and other sewing machines in those days, in conjunction with small fast and loose 1” flat belt pulleys.

I’m no so sure about using the plastic “hot knife weld” belting now available. I have heard that it whips and stretches in long runs.

Has anyone had experience of this kind of application?

The better specification “hot knife weld” belting seems to be fine, Mike

Usually green in colour with a slightly rough surface

… Originally expensive [Swiss, I think] but there is a good Chinese approximation available on ebay.

Maybe the round welded-together plastic belt off a Simpson clothes dryer would be suitable?. Seems to last forever, our dryer is now 40 years old and I've only replaced the belt once!

Is this Simpson product from Britain?

I’ve certainly never heard of such an machine.

What diameter is the belt (or ’O’ ring?) ?
