Found a pair of these R/h & L/h that I have had for decades. But never used. Could find nothing on line about them. Looks like they lock and set a piece of 1/4" dia. HSS. With geometry not unlike the Aussie diamond tools. Is there anything written about them please. Become strangely persuaded to try them.

Have a couple of sets and used them quite a lot. As you point out, they share the advantage of the Diamond tools in only having to grind one face. Clever idea but doesn't seem to have 'caught on'.

Bill – Can I ask if you put top rake on, and do you grind any other forms into the tool bit, As it seems to naturally favor the elliptical form from grinding, Which is a bit restrictive of course?

Rod – apologies for not answering your query – missed it until today!!blush

No, no top rake. As I understand the principle, the intention was to make sharpening utterly simple i.e. just grind one flat face. Set it at centre height and it allows both turning and facing without having to adjust anything. Obviously, it does not allow 'sharp' internal forms. Maybe that's the limitation which stopped it being more popular. Apropos a different matter – the Peatol lathe DID have a cross slide … amazing what tidying the workshop will turn up!!!
