I bought this at an auto jumble with the intention of making a small swing surface grinder for my shims etc.

Another project that is on the back burner.

It is very solid and wondered if it was part of a DTI assembly.

A 6inch rule is in front for comparison.

Is it what I thought or used for something else.

It does look like a DTI Holder.

Course thread for course adjustment. There is probably a fine thread under the clampfor fine adjustment.

This reminds me of a Comparator I have seen. It is set up like a, 'Go' 'No Go' gauge.

It looks like the stand of a comparator. These were always pretty solidly built.

                Hi David

Nice to see that you are still " lurking"!

Yep I think this is a comparator stand.

It could certainly make a good base for a T&C grinder.

                    Sorry Paul,

What I meant to type was 'that looks completely useless, would you like me to get rid of it for you?'

My very thoughts. It's the column I could use. I have found a piece of 2" bright round stock though. That and a leadscrew, all very interesting though and I feel a Build Thread coming on.

Yes, I have a comparator almost the same.

When I saw that column it reminded me of a Dore Westbury mill column that I have lurking about. Then I looked closer! Same principle though, a collar with a peg in it climbing up and down a slow thread.

I concur with those who consider it to be a comparator stand, I have a similar one which I use ,with some modification, to ensure alignment when presenting a tap to a drilled hole .
