A friend dropped a stone on his foot while building a rockery. Up to A&E – no fracture only soft tissue damage. Some weeks later he received an invite to attend a ‘Fall Clinic’. He phoned up, explained that it was the stone and not he which had fallen. ‘So shall we put you down as a refusal?

Recently I tripped on the footpath and broke my wrist. While getting a plaster cast fitted I enquired if I too would be asked to attend the ‘Fall Clinic’. The answer was so simple it has confused me ‘ no, you did not fall, you tripped’.

You joined the scaphoid club? If so, congratulations. I’ve been in it 3 times 🙂

Partly a box ticking exercise. Old people getting unsteady on their feet even if just standing still has been flagged as a problem so they want to try to stop that happening again and maybe resulting in a head injury. Tests would be done to determine if there is an underlying health issue. A trip is easy to categorise as well just an accident.
Some group exercise activities for OAPs now involve balance tests to help them become aware of their limitations.

I have seen a few “Balance Tests” being conducted in the local pub.

Interesting, to put it mildly !

‘Balance Tests’. Mental or physical? I think might fail on both.

One of the millers was helping the works fitter to move the deep hole boring lathe which had a bed made up from three parts and he put his foot in the wrong place at the wrong time. One section fell on his foot and pressed the steel toecap right through the sole of the boot. When the hospital managed to remove the remains of the boot, it turned out that no bones were broken, but he hada very sore foot for months.

A chap I know received a phone call from the hospital saying his upcoming appointment had been cancelled. A week or so later he checked the NHS app for an update. To his astonishment the reason given for his ‘cancelled’ appointment was ‘patient failed to attend’.

Another way to reduce the waiting lists?

My wife had a similar thing happen resulting in being put to the back of a very long queue now when we receive a call from the hospital we ask for a letter of confirmation to be sent.
