      Hi Everyone,

      Thanks for all your advice.

I have reviewed my decision to buy a Myford, and I still think it is the best choice for me.

There seems to be a vast amount of help and advice available; things like Hemmingway kits seem to use Myford as the default machine, and spare parts and accessories are readily available both new and second-hand.

Given my lack of experience with larger lathes I don’t want to risk taking something on which might have hidden problems, even if it is cheap to buy.

The upshot is that I will be going for a refurbished Super 7 from Myford themselves.

Another attraction is that if they deliver the lathe, they will set it up for you.

Being a beginner, I will probably be asking for more help in the future.

      Thanks again.

      KrisB

I didn't write the post that Bandersnatch didn't understand, I was merely explaining it.

I was going to say that what was meant was "elusive character" but I understand from the Moderators that I am not allowed to correct the English grammar and spelling of other contributors.

Buy an old cheaper 2nd hand unit and learn the ropes on that. Once you get good then get a good machine.

If you were a clueless apprentice newbie in a machine shop they wouldn't let you near a brand new expensive machine until you had some experience
