Alibre Atom

Hi, I use Alibre Atom on my desktop and am quite pleased with it.  However, I have decided that I would like to use it on a laptop.  My question is does anyone know if it will run OK on an emulated GPU our does it really need a dedicated GPU card?   I am thinking of one of the newer Intel Ultra 7 or Ryzen 9 laptop processors eg. AI 9 HX370’s.  As I am only drawing small parts I think I should be OK with 32GB ram, but would like to get any input from people who have been down this route before purchasing.  My reasons are trying to keep weight and thermal issues down to a reasonable level.

A lot depends upon how complex the design gets.  Though dedicated GPUs are recommended, there are quite a few users operating with integrated graphics.

Note that the integrated graphics solution will ‘steal’ system RAM for graphics use, which could be an issue (again mainly if designs get complex).

There are settings you you can tweak to reduce the demands on the graphics system – useful if things start to get a bit sluggish.

I would add that Alibre is essentially single threaded, so number of cores is far less relevant than maximum processor speed.

I have used ‘integrated graphics’/no graphics card for a long time and have no problems with Alibre  rotating/translating/scaling etc. views.

Thanks, the Alibre web forum did make some suggestions but I don’t think many users there use Atom.  I think I will go for the integrated graphics route, sitting down with a 3kg laptop in my lap at 60 degrees C is not that attractive at the moment!  Handy to know about the single threading.
