Solar eclipse

Since I saw the total eclipse of 1999 in France I decided to ignore this partial eclipse. However when the eclipse started I put a small hole in a sheet of card and projected the image across my living room. Nothing surprising about that. When I removed the card I had lots of images on the wall from the sunlight shining through a bush outside the window. The bush was acting as many pinhole cameras. I did take photos but have yet to download the images. As the eclipse waned these images disappeared and were replaced by the usual partial shadow.

I have little knowledge about light but there must be a light level at which reflection/refraction ceases to dominate the transmission of light.

Humph … Grrr!!

I drove up to the hill to a good spot with a clear view of Sun’s location

Spent more than 2 hours ‘observing’ a patch of very bright cloud.

Distant memories of the 1961 event … viewed from the schoolyard using glass smoked in a candle-flame, will have to suffice 🙁

Not too bad here in North Warwickshire the clouds managed to drift away in time, but no where near the 90% coverage that some areas had. Much better than 1999 though when we had light cloud cover and barely saw anything.

I did have a play, for the first time, with a Dwarf 3 astro camera.
I set it to take a photo every 15 seconds, and then compiled them into a short video.
Unfortunately, the camera kept losing tracking, so the video ended up quite jumpy.
After playing with various editing/stabilisation software, again for the first time, I eventually came up with this.
Now I need to have a try with a higher resolution set of originals.
