An excellent video which is itself very well made and which sent me off to relaxed sleep last night….

However, be thoughtful about trying to use the same techniques…….palletts are made from scandinavian soft wood and are often of very poor quality. Tool chests are usually made from hard and medium hard straight grained woods. I mistakenly used pallett wood for the door of my scratch built shed which was mainly made from 100 year old roof purlins…..The door continued to flex and move for three years and the gaps between boards opened further as theh timber stabilised,…not to mention the large amounts of resin which came thru the surface treatment…."spoilt a good ship for a ha'porth of tar"…….

I have in the past used pallet wood but it is not always good it depends on what part of the world it comes from I have found some very nice wood in pallets as well as rubbish.

I've been using pallet wood to make hedgehog houses, made 20 and given them away on Freegle. One pallet had really hard wood runners (thick bits), I offered them to the wood burning neighbours, but no takers. Most folks don't have wood saws any more, just get the man in.

Good video, not sure about shorts in the snow but what do I know. Useful wood from pallets if you are selective. Some of the pallets from further away are often from hardwood, unfortunately probably sourced from a cleared rain-forest

The bottom pen is turned from a bit of pallet, absolutely no idea what wood but it turned quite nicely. The pen a the top is from Cocobola also turns nicely but you definitely need a mask when sanding.

I liked the vid. The only time I ever repurposed pallets was when someone gave me a load when I was a young dad. I sawed the lot up and burnt it in the living room fireplace. Good job we never had a carpet back then because the stuff cracked, banged and spat sparks everywhere. A chippy where I was working told me it was probably poplar – "truly lethal in a fireplace" he said.

Traditionally poplar was used in the UK because it is sod all use for anything else. But with so many pallets coming in from China there can hardly be any market for locally made ones except non-standard sizes. All softwoods spit when burning because of trapped pockets of sap.

But 37 minutes and no decent photograph of the end result that was teh only interesting bit. Also where's the drawer for machinery's handbook?

If you want exercise walk or cycle round your town daily. Often old but good chests of drawers that may yield beech or oak put at the roadside if you can get there before it rains. Plus the occasional filing cabinet if you want a big tool store or just some sheet metal.

About 30 years ago I was working on a large construction site away from home and had to rent a flat during the week. No problem heating thought I, there's loads of wood from packaging, pallets etc being thrown out every day, so I arrange to fill the boot with wood and take it away. Why are they all smiling? Anyway, I sawed it into manageable pieces, and got a little blaze going with with twigs from the woodland, then apply some of my bigger bits. Fire went out almost immediately. Tried again, several times. Turned out all wood coming onto site had to be treated with something which when it got hot gassed off and put out the fire. Ah well, sawing it all up kept me warm for one night anyway.

Hi, nice looking tool chest in the link. I haven't made anything quite so elaborate with pallet wood, but I have made a couple of "Ranch" type fences, in the most part from the slats of long pallets, the youngest one below was made 23 years ago and was painted with some of the last proper creosote that I had.

Both are still standing, but those trees have obscured the view now of the section in the above photo . I've also used long bearers from some other types of pallets, for ceiling joists in two sections of my garage, which I treated for woodworm and rot protection, so they should last me out.
