Well, the heat has me beat today – 31 degrees in the workshop, 37.5 degrees in the shade outside on our patio and I'm wilting!

I feel for anyone who has to work in these conditions…

          Agreed, but it's all relative…

On a refrigeration forum I use one of the members from Iraq posted a picture of his car dashboard at 5 o'clock in the morning and a temperature of 50⁰C. ( Not for me I think)

I am sat working from home in the only available space…………The conservatory.

Currently 37° with all doors and windows open and fan blowing.

Brian. I quickly read your surname as Sweating – apologies! No way would you get me out there to work, I ran contracts in various hot countries and they were paid extra for those jobs and earned every penny.

Phil. A fan really helps but I find it difficult to concentrate when its like this.

So, even allowing for the inaccuracies of the device it still darn hot out there…

                It’s probably raining in Manchester.

If the forecasters are to be believed, there will be thunder in East Anglia before the day is out.

                  How about this for logic?

Yesterday, our Maplin weather station lit up like a Christmas tree and began bleeping. ( It has been indicating low battery for months&nbsp

So, if the battery is not flat, it soon will be!

Finally fitted new batteries. NOTHING. After several attempts, noticed that as the batteries were shaken out there was an split second green light. Loose connection? Took apart (Nothing to lose )

After several examinations with a high power magnifier, spotted a hole in the solder on one of the battery connections. Resoldered all six connections, reassembled, fit batteries and Whoopee did all the right "start up" signals. Went through the set up procedure and awaited results.

Wonder how it has survived new batteries being fitted over the years!

It now shows 35C under the kitchen window cill (solar gain ) and 30 C in the shade in the kitchen.

Some rain (not too heavy ) to lower temperatures and save watering the garden, will be welcome.

My garage workshop never gets above a very pleasant 18 deg. Firstly because it is half buried in the ground an secondly because there is a roof garden on top it; wooden planking and an inch of stone chips act as an excellent insulator. Unfortunately my wife has made me go away in our caravan and it’s 38 deg currently!!!

Had to do some maintenance on my beehive yesterday, it was 33 degrees outside and I had to wear my bee suit, boy was it hot, I just about melted. My thoughts went back to the 60’s when I used to work outside in what was Trucial Oman and the temperature was regularly in the 50’s, can’t believe we survived it, certainly couldn’t now at my advanced years. Oh for a thunderstorm to break this heatwave.

Our paint shop millwrights would occasionally have a problem with the conveyor in the paint ovens, they run at about 180°C , it was still uncomfortably warm after battery of mancoolers were blasting as much cool air in as possible, glad I was a sparky and nothing electrical in the oven.

There was a spectacular lightning show last night about 10.20PM UK time, way to the north of Bristol. Literally dozens of huge flashes all up in the clouds, not a sound to be heard. My Brother said his two dogs were going crazy, they must have heard it.

I checked the outside temp at 7 pm and it was 32.2, but now, at nearly 8:30 pm it is down to 27.9. Too hot for me.

Bristol must be getting it at the moment, there is one of those rare thunderstorms where the rumbles are continuous to the north of me at WSM. No rain so far and the outside temp is 27.2.

It got pretty hot here today – my valley acts as a solar focal point. So why didn't you guys turn the a/c on? <rapid exit stage left>

(back in the 70's I worked in a practice with a converted shed as it's theatre. We recorded 112F in there one year. So hot that I could manage a 30 min op then drink a quart of water and sit outside to cool down before the next job. I filled a bin-bag with water in a cat basket and froze it so i could hug an ice cube the next day. That was when i promised myself that a/c was on my priority list)
