Neil the ground anchor would work anywhere except rocky ground, used to use one when I went off roading to fix the winch to when there were not trees etc, if they can take that load then you should be able to buckle the tripod legs before it pulls out.

Fairly simple design but you may need to find a model engineer to make one on teh cheap for you, telescope would make a handy tommy bar.

Agreed, a ground anchor and tension wire is an excellent alterntive to gravity, and avoids carrying all those heavy rocks and sandbags around.

As an engineer … you might find inspiration here … It's a lovely piece of work, and could easily be scaled-up.
