Spark Erosion Machine

Several years ago two members of Keighley Model Engineering club made a Spark Erosion Machine detail were posted in EIM. They used a transformer supplied by RS components 240- 48 volts, Does any one one know the technical details of the transformer as I already have a collection of transformer, so no need to buy another. John

I have buit what turned out to be a good machine ! USE ANY transformer that will give you 50-100V at 3A or more. NOT an auto transformer ! IF you have 2 identical units that are not high enough voltage then they can be linked in series to double the voltage. If you want more info come back to me ? Noel

OK Noel about the transformer, I have quiet a few transformer so now no problem there. I've now have got a copy of what was published in EIM years ago when Maplin was still around. I thought it might be a useful thing to have around in the workshop. John

I think the the spark eroder transformer was the RS number 504-329 it was a 50 volt..

I'm not aware of the EIM circuit, tell me more ?. I used a pair of one armed bandit transformers that gave me 66V at 8A or 100V at 3A, plus 12V for the control circuit. Look at the tread on here on EDM machines, page 2 at 07/05/2021 at 21:50 you will see a brief rundown on my machine and pictures. A golf buggy charging transformer will give about 55V at up to 20A and be rectified ! The Ben Fleming design does have a short coming that was solved by Jeff Daymans modification. Noel.

It appears to be 0-24 + 0-24  , at a total  of 50VA , so wireable as 0-48

… and the good news is :There doesn’t appear to be anything very special about that one.
