I can think of what they could be used for,  but what legitimate use for the general public.  Photo as seen at our local Wilco type of store.

I use mine to weigh out white powder. Legally it is to ensure I put the right dosage of medication into my koi pond. Have also used it to weigh out 2 part resin and catalyst.

Mine are slightly larger; I used them this morning for weighing 18g of coffee to compare volumes against grind sizes.
Previously used for weighing chemicals to make up solutions of known strengths, and when sharpening garden shredder blades to ensure they are balanced.

Can’t think what I’d use them for, but many shooters use this type of scale for weighing Airgun Pellets.  Mainly for competition use, although I suspect much of it’s psychological, and a bit of posing.

Weighing bats…. but that’s illegal unless you are a zoologist trained and licenced to do so!

(I kid thee not. I have been privileged to watch a bat survey, by the invitation of the naturalist conducting it. He and the PhD student assisting him, used a similar small balance, about the size of a “smart”-phone.)

I used one exactly like that daily in my job when checking the grind drop in coffee machine fixing.

Jewellers who buy old gold use them.

Not posing at all. Competition can be high.  You are obviously not an air gun competition shooter.  Or maybe not an ‘any airgun’ user.  Pellet weight will very much determine the muzzle velocity for any given air pressure.  Pellet drop at any given distance is according to Newton’s Laws of Linear Motion.  Pellets only slow down in flight, so the longer the flight time, the greater the drop at the target.

There are lots of legal uses for them, just as there are for kitchen scales, etc.

Hi, how many scales does one actually need.

                            Scales CIMG3483

Left to right, my first one is a Satrue “professional” PS-200B, which I bought many moons ago from Maplin electronics, which is a 200g/0.1g,with ranges of g, oz, dwt and ozt, and came with a 100g calibration weight. The other three were all bought from CPC UK at the same time a while ago, I was only after two at the time, but adding the first one of these three, was cheaper than than getting the other two on their own, as it then reached the threshold of free postage, and the first one is a Duratool D03408 500g/0.1g with ranges of g, oz, tl, ct, and gn. The second one is a multicomp PRO 8068-series 50g/0.001g, with ranges tl, dwt, gn, ozt ,ct, mg and g, and will also do PCS, and came with a 50g calibration weight. This can use battery power or a supply via USB. The last one is a Duratool D03409 500g/0.1g, with ranges gn, oz, ozt, dwt, ct, lb, tl, ml, and g, and will also do PCS.

I don’t have any specific use for them, but I do like to know how much small items weigh.

                            Regards Nick.

I bought one which goes to 250g and other scales, they are cheap and useful for measuring glue as there is a tare function to discount the weight of small containers. Available in much smaller than 250g for weighing jewelry.

I have a fair number.  The most-used set (after the electronic kitchen scale on the wall) is a baby scale – up to 16kg, I think.  The scale pan is likely lost, mind.

I also occasionally use the 250kg load cell which usually hung from the ceiling in my workshop.

I knew a good bench rest shooter many years ago. He weighed his bullets, cartridge cases, propellant and primers and batched them so he got ten rounds with the minimum variation.

My little scales generally get used for weighing out silver solder cleaning salts. However, if I was clever, I could use it for counting small nuts and screws instead of using tweezers and doing it one by one (and being taxed by the workshop elves).
