Myford Super 7 Headstock Bronze Bearing Felt Lubricator Wick.

Finally given up, sick of pouring oil into the lubricator cup to have the lathe swarf tray swimming in oil due to the deterioration of the felt wick feed to the bronze headstock bearing.

Unable to find replacement part for the felt pad, what method has been used to make and replace the old pad has been devised over the years by our Myford user friends.

Unable to find any topic for the subject on the forum.

If you go to **LINK** and enter "lubricating wick" in the search panel it will take you to a page where the components currently available are listed. Pictures are clear, so you should be able to pick the right one.

I only have small oilers on my Drumond M series and no wicks

I use colloidal graphite mixed with my chosen oil and use a small pipet and an old plastic pills container

The plastic cup of mixed oil has a small round neodymium magnet in it, to collect any metal dust

No problems after 5 years

I find that I do my slideways and leadscrews a lot more than my headstock bearings, so a drip into the headstock oilers when I do my slideways has been the habit

The plastic pipet allows me to put oil accurately pretty much anywhere on the lathe, anytime I want

You can buy plastic pipets for buttons nowadays, and you never get oil on your fingers if you use one, even a good oilcan can get a bit oily after a while

Item 261904623756 on a well known auction site for example

3ml may be too small, but you can get 5 and 10ml pipettes as well

I bought these for oiling. I'm also going to try one for applying small quantities of cutting oil to the brush I use on the lathe. A smear of cutting oil can make a big difference. No problem using them to put a few drops of oil even in very small oiler cups.
